For a while now Taylor and I have been tossing around some ideas to help us refocus, artistically. When you make a creative pursuit into a job, after a while there are times when it can be challenging to fuel yourself creatively. If you fail to broaden your horizons artistically and never create imagery for yourself, your creative spark can wane and at the same time you can get pigeon-holed. How so? Well, when a photographer is commissioned—including wedding photography, maybe especially wedding photography—it’s often hard for folks to separate a photographer’s style from the subject matter. For example, someone may see some work for hire (not personal projects) that we’ve posted but because the personal style of the subjects are not like their own, they can’t really picture how our style would translate to theirs. So for that reason we feel it’s time to stir things up a bit. Read on (below)…

Birch Blaze creative photography
As we finish up work on last season and think about the upcoming one, we’ve been getting ready to try some different photographic formats, such tintype or wet plate photography. But we’ve also decided to share an idea, an opportunity, really, based on an article we recently read that got us thinking…

The Wishlist

Since the time we realized we might have a future in photography we’ve often discussed what kinds of things we’d like to shoot. Styles, locations, subjects. We plan to put together some of our own ideas and shoot them, but it’s hard to take time away from our clients to do that. We’ve decided to put some of these ideas out there under the public eye and see what kind of interest we might generate. What follows is our wishlist. If any of these ideas strikes your fancy or you have friends or family that you think might fit into one of these “genres,” by all means please let us know. We are offering a significant discount on our rates if your plans match up with any of our wishlist items. Many of these are wedding-related, but we’re definitely interested in creative portraiture and other ideas as well. Also included in this is a call out for unique and creative elopements, for which we also have special rates for the right fit. As you’ll see, this is not limited to our backyard. We’d love to travel to yours!

#1 Mountain top wedding (we’re not talking about chairlifts & gondolas. Nope. Hiking! Amazing views, nature, friends/family and lots of love)

#2 European wedding …UK, Ireland, Norway, Italy and beyond…get in touch!

#3 Alaskan wedding …Ok, some of you may know we’re actually shooting our first Alaskan wedding this June, but one is not enough!

#4 Vintage wedding …20’s, 30’s, 40’s…60’s, 70’s. Authenticity & attention to detail, hit us up!

#5 Central/South American wedding

#6 South western US/Northern Pacific US weddings, etc. …

#7 Your call! What ‘cha got? A wedding with an unusual theme/location? An elopement in an exotic locale or lots of style? A crazy idea for a family or portraiture shoot? Get in touch!

If anything on our list perks your interest, if you have an even better idea or if someone pops into your head and you think, “I need to tell so-and-so about this!” (please do, and…), drop us a line! Please provide the following info: Name(s), date of proposed event/wedding, location, detailed description (as many details as you can provide), Also, tell us about yourselves and please include a photo(s) or a link to one. We’ll be in touch and let you know if it’s something we’d like to learn more about/discuss further or perhaps if it’s something we wouldn’t be able to take on.

We look forward to hearing from you and perhaps creating a grand adventure along with some amazing imagery together! -K&Tay
